OTHER AMENITIES AND FEATURES:
SWIMMING:
Approximately 230 meters or so from Villa Nefeli is a popular swimming cove nestled in amongst the shore’s rocky coast. People love to go jumping off the rocks into the deep, crystal waters there as well as sunbathe on the large natural stones. It is a downhill walk from the Villa to the cove. Upon arrival at the street above the cove, there are built in stone stairs leading down much of the path from the street to the water below. Although swimming here is highly recommended (it certainly is an amazing experience) if one has mobile difficulties or small children, it may not be suitable. Although walking to the cove is easy… because of the neighborhood’s mountainous nature, driving may be more suitable for people with lower physical dexterity or small children.
Schinias Beach, perhaps the best beach in the world for small children, is owned by the community association but open to the public and located minutes away by car at the gated entrance into the community. Several beach clubs and restaurants are also located there.
Swimming pool is in the Poseidon Area awaiting your arrival and is perfect for everyone. Lockable gates and doors block off the pool area for your young children’s safety.
Sxinias, Schinias: The Area
The Community of Themis at Schinias is located within the Schinias National Environmental Park. It is a planned community created as place for summer homes in a natural setting on the Aegean Sea but close enough to Athens to allow homeowners to easily commute daily to their workplace. It stretches several kilometers along a mountainous coast with about sixty percent of its land area set aside as “green areas” protected from development and the rest divided into 1000 lots for homes owned by private individuals. This Athenian seaside neighborhood was the choice housing area for the US Rowing TEAM DURING THE 2004 Athens Olympics as the Rowing venue is located in the area as well.
ACCESS TO ATHENS
Schinias is located within the township of Marathon and is the site where the Athenians defeated the Persians in 490 BC. A Greek Warrior named Pheidippides ran from the battle to Athens to announce the victory over the Persians. This event gave birth to the modern 40 kilometer Marathon Run which, by the way, is several kilometers longer than famous run actually made by Pheidippides.
Several events were held at Schinias during the Athens 2004 Summer Olympic Games and we benefited immensely. Our local highway network and bus system were greatly enhanced to comply with the requirements of the International Olympic Committee for easy and rapid access between Olympic sites. Four-lane divided expressways now lead directly from Schinias to downtown Athens or to its airport making traveling to them fast and simple.
